True Love

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”   John 15:13
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.   1 Corinthians 13:4-7
love is a hard word,
easy to say,
difficult to prove;
impossible to overcome;
it is a word I have used
many times without true understanding,
without complete comprehension
of just what it was saying,
a word filled with so much
meaning and possibilities,
yet so much bigger than my
ability to fulfill,
a word with such magnificent intent;
yet used for all the wrong reasons;
true love overcomes all obstacles,
true love never gives up or quits,
true love goes beyond physical barriers,
true love comes but rarely
in the lives of men;
true love comes from God;
“Greater love has no one than this
that he lay down his life for his friends”
more than words
by the One who lived it,
more than empty promises
by the One who provided the way
through which we might overcome;
the One who gave the perfect example,
the One who made all things possible,
the One who is the answer,
the One who is truth,
the One who is light;
the One who is love.
