Simple Minds

where is peace?
where is comfort?
where is silence?
this place is not a refuge,
it stands silent before raging seas,
towering above the Neolithic wasteland,
like some giant frozen monolith,
waiting for the springtime sun
which never comes;
out here, creatures lurk without false hope,
raping and pillaging everything in their path,
biting and chewing,
creating giant gaping wounds,
no inhibitions, no false pretenses,
ripping open the flesh of
unsuspecting victims,
torn apart with their own greed and lust,
betrayed by their never-ending fear;
no one sees,
no one knows,
no one cares;
I am ready,
it is near,
I am ready;
give me Your hand,
take me into Your arms,
hold me above the slaughter,
provide the strength needed to survive,
nothing is an accident in
this life gone awry,
every dream, every thought,
every action, every reaction;
all part of the game,
all part of the test;
simple minds speak with
simple tongues,
talking of futures and pasts
their narrow, simple minds
can barely grasp;
this is the way it has always been,
this is the way it will always be.
