The Great Conundrum

the problem with the past
is yesterday and tomorrow;
you can’t undo yesterday,
and you sure can’t
guarantee tomorrow;
the problem with the present
is yesterday and tomorrow;
you can’t undo yesterday,
and you sure can’t
guarantee tomorrow;
the problem with the future
is yesterday and tomorrow;
you can’t undo yesterday,
and you sure can’t
guarantee tomorrow;
feelings fade,
sliding out the door
like unwanted
house guests,
fleeing into the
surrounding wilderness
never to return,
never to be seen again,
the pain comes,
the pain goes,
here today,
gone tomorrow,
just a passing moment,
piling upon a mountain
of yesterday’s moments,
cascading into fresh moments
of today,
which patiently wait for
new moments of tomorrow;
in the end
it means very little,
because;
you can’t undo yesterday,
and you sure can’t
guarantee tomorrow.
