Real Reasons

I listen to both sides,

trying to keep an open mind,

when suddenly it occurred to me,

it’s not a question of right or wrong,

because there is no right or wrong,

both sides are always right,

both sides are always wrong,

it’s not a matter of going to war

or not going to war,

what it’s really all about is;

entertainment;

that’s what it has always been about

throughout human history, only today,

with the invention of satellites and TV,

it can be brought into every household in the world,

making it very big business;

when survival isn’t enough,

when the trials and tribulations of everyday living

become boring,

war and the use or misuse of power,

has always been the answer,

it stirs up passions and emotions

unlike any other human endeavor,

a million mini-dramas all rolled into one,

making for great debates and passionate speeches,

with both sides convinced of their divine positions,

firmly entrenched in their moral superiority;

daring death and living to tell about it,

the ultimate rush,

better than any drug or video game,

and no matter what other reasons they might give,

that is the real reason;

just ask any little boy

with a toy gun.
