We
are all slaves whether we realize it or not. You cannot be alive in this life
without being a slave. Slaves to our jobs, slaves to fear, slaves to emotions, slaves to food,
slaves to thirst, slaves to our bodies, slaves to all the things that make up
survival. True freedom only comes when we are no longer subjects to survival.
Imagine being a slave all your life, then dying and
simply ceasing to exist, or worse yet being punished eternally for something
all mankind is guilty of. I cannot think of anything more tragic or cruel than
that. Living only to die, being a slave without hope of anything better.
Fortunately we are creations of a God who understands how we are created, what
a cruel and unusual punishment life would be if this was all there was. God did
not intend for our lives to be this way. But rather than make us subservient to
his every thought and will He created us with a will of our own. He allowed us
to choose what path we would go down as human beings, and as a result of deceit
we chose the path of sin. Once sin entered the world that God had intended for
us to live in, there was no way to return to God or the perfect world He had
created. God did not forget us however, He created a remedy for the choice we
made. This remedy was for every human being who has been alive, for all who
came before and all who would come after, the first and the last. That remedy
was the sacrifice of His only begotten Son, on a cross that was foretold by
prophets hundreds of years before it happened, before Rome and crucifixion had
ever been thought of. This sacrifice was for the forgiveness of sin, that
whosoever accepted this sacrifice would escape the penalty for sin, which is
death.
This life does not hold the answer. This life is
momentary and temporary, fading like the mist. You have the choice to decide if
you want to live your entire life as a slave or be truly free, in this life, and
when it is over. If you hear the voice of the Holy Spirit do not harden your
heart.
Behold,
I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I
will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
As
has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as
you did in the rebellion.” Hebrews 3:15
If you declare with your mouth,
“Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved. Romans 10:9
For God so loved the
world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to
condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John
3:16-17
